Combination piano and voice lessons can be very beneficial for any student interested in music. They emphasize a dual focus, as it is applied to both disciplines.

Combination lessons help provide a deeper understanding of music and how different musical instruments are intertwined and related to each other. They are also a great way for children or adults to be exposed to a unique set of coordination skills that are impossible to build using other instruments.

Being able to play your own vocal warm ups is a huge advantage in a career as a singer. You will no longer need to rely on a teacher or pianist to guide you through them. With combination piano and voice lessons, you can learn accompany yourself while singing, master the art of accompanying others, or simply enhance your overall musicianship.

Minimum weekly 45- to 60-minute lesson.

What Students Learn

Broaden Music Literacy and Adaptability

Each student learns at their own pace and has a unique lesson plan based on their needs and goals. Combination piano and voice lessons teach all the basics and typically include the following:

Voice Lesson:

  • How to sing in tune
  • Vocal basics like proper breath energy, tone quality, and resonance
  • Developing your range and flexibility

Piano Lesson:

  • How to read music
  • How to play chords and scales
  • Basic piano technique

Once a student has a foundation of both instruments built, they can begin to work on integrating voice and piano together as one unit. As piano playing improves, the benefits to their singing increase. And as piano skill level increases, the more it will be an asset to your singing.

Meld Your Love of Singing and Playing Piano with Combination Lessons

The program is designed to build confidence, tenacity, and creativity as students learn to play, sing and even improvise! Students learn how to prepare for performances and can receive feedback through evaluation opportunities at the studio. Their learning is put to work with the opportunity to share their growth and inspire peers through recitals. Community is key!

Matt Safley Music strives to inspire students to continually improve their musical abilities with personalized lessons planned around their goals, learning style, and interests!

Practice Expectations

Students are expected to practice and come prepared for lessons. It's required that students practice a minimum of three days a week consistently. If this requirement is not met, students may be asked to reduce their lesson time or be referred to another studio.

Piano students must have a keyboard to practice at home. Beginners need a minimum of 30 keys. Intermediate players need a full size keyboard with 88 keys and touch sensitivity.
